Serving greasy food to demanding customers at Mel's diner, Alice (Linda Lavin) bonds with her oddball co-workers – another aspiring singer, Belle (Diane Ladd); wise-cracking, ex-truck driver Jolene; sweet, ditzy Vera (Beth Howland); and her gruff boss, Mel. And, though they always seem just out of reach, Alice never gives up on her dreams in one of the most popular situation comedies ever, Alice.
