City Island

Watt joins the school newspaper and is excited to write his first article! He is assigned to interview Principal Looseleaf and decides to exaggerate some details to create a more exciting story. When his article causes chaos around the newsroom, Watt learns to stick to the facts when reporting the news.

Watt, Windy and Frank get a bird’s eye view of City Island on an aerial tour led by Chopper the helicopter. They fly by a plethora of landmarks, including a tenement building, the Empire Island Building and, of course, the Brickland Bridge! Along the way, they learn how each structure was built at a different point in time to suit the needs of the city.

Watt's class goes on a field trip to the cultural center of City Island, Theater Street! There, they meet world-famous producer Bill Le Play, who leads a show-stopping song about the many people it takes to make a play. As he sings, writers, designers, directors and more join in, illustrating how artistic collaboration helps bring projects to life.

Watt and his friends attend a ballet class taught by the legendary Slipper Sisters. Lacey Rollerskate is unable to perform some of the dance moves because she has wheels. With the help of Ollie Scooter, Lacey learns about all the great wheel-focused dance moves that she can do! Together with the Slipper Sisters, they work to change the rules of ballet class so everyone can dance together.

Watt gets a class assignment to make a family tree and doesn't know where to start. Luckily, this weekend is the Light family reunion! Watt circulates the party and takes careful notes on how he is related to everyone. Once he's done, he connects all the dots and creates his family tree. Watt celebrates learning more about his personal history with a Light family portrait.

After seeing a movie about a scary-looking future, Watt and Windy wonder what City Island will look like someday. To help, Frank takes them on a bike ride to show what the city is currently doing to ensure a better future. They ride past a greenway, electric vehicles and even a modern lifestyle center. Ultimately, they learn how wonderful City Island's future can be if everyone makes an effort.

When world-famous pop star Venus Flytrap visits City Island on her world tour, Watt must choose between attending the concert or movie night with his dad. Watt is conflicted about what to do, but a chance meeting with Venus Flytrap herself teaches him how to weigh the pros and cons of his choice. After considering the options, Watt goes to movie night and enjoys the concert on TV with his dad.

When a detour blocks Watt, Windy and Mark on their way to Swimmy Island Water Park, they need to find a new route. The friends enlist the help of Geo, a digital map kiosk, who teaches them how to read a map and identify landmarks, symbols and cardinal directions. They follow the map and before they know it, they’re at the park and ready for fun in the sun!

When Watt bumps his bulb while playing at the play park, Frank takes him on his first trip to the hospital. Watt is a little nervous at first, but the capable doctors and nurses help him feel at ease as they take him through all the stages of treatment. Watt returns home with his dad feeling much better, and with a new appreciation for the hospital.

Watt's class visits Maker Hill, the industrial neighborhood of City Island where goods are made. Watt thinks that a wizard uses magic to make everything. Rosie Rivet, the borough president, leads a tour of all the factories and shows the class that it’s skilled workers who make products like lumber, vehicles and computers. It may not be wizards, but it’s still magical to see how things are made!

The City Island Movie Making Club gets a visit from world-famous Movieville director David Lunch! The eccentric auteur helps Watt and his friends make movies about their lives. Watt is initially hesitant to share a personal story, but David Lunch teaches him how he can face his fears and express his feelings through art.

When Watt accidentally throws away his dad’s special pen, they travel to the City Island Waste Management Center to track it down. They discover that their friend Detritus, the grouchy plastic bag, is in charge of the whole facility! He takes them on a tour, where they learn all the stages of processing the city’s waste. In the end, Watt realizes the missing pen was in his pocket all along!

When Watt accidentally rips the cape of his Superbulb action figure, he goes shopping with Frank and Windy in search of a new one. Along the way, he learns about different types of stores, including grocery stores, hardware stores and department stores. Watt uses his newfound knowledge to find a new cape and restore order to the galaxy!

City-Henge is the day when the sunset lines up perfectly with Main Street. This year, the mayor chose Windy’s family farm to make all the clouds! Windy and Watt go to Skytown to see the entire process of cloud production from beginning to end. They learn about how clouds are grown, cleaned, dyed and transported, and then join the rest of City Island to enjoy the beautiful sunset.

Watt, Mark and Windy attend a computer club taught by the friendly Ms. Webster! In order to learn about the internet, they send an email and follow its journey around the world. Inside a fantastical digital world, they see the paths and routers that help messages reach their destinations. The friends return with a newfound respect for the genius of the internet!

When Watt and Windy learn that their new favorite show, Speedy Sneakers, is actually just an advertisement for shoes, Frank suggests they travel to Sign Square and visit the sneaker store in person. After seeing many kinds of ads, they meet Speedy himself, who reveals that he’s been trying to sell them sneakers the whole time!

When Lidia sends a kickball flying into a mysterious shed at the far corner of the playground, which is rumored to be haunted, Watt launches an investigation with his friends to determine the truth! After interviewing sources and gathering evidence, they discover that the shed is not haunted and learn the importance of analyzing the facts.

While on a ferry tour, Watt’s grandfather Edison tells his life story and how he immigrated to City Island. His life appears in flashback as he recounts his personal history: his childhood in another country, moving to City Island, making friends, attending college and meeting Watt’s grandmother. The flashback ends as the family arrives at Torchy, the Welcoming Statue!

It's Swap Day at City Island Elementary, where students trade their personal belongings with one another. Watt is excited to find a Dusty Buster helmet, but the owner is not interested in Watt’s homemade comic book. With Mark’s help, Watt learns that people value items differently, and he completes a series of trades to obtain the coveted helmet!

Watt can't wait for Sparkle Day, his favorite holiday of the whole year! When he finds out that Windy’s family celebrates Cold Breeze Day, he doesn’t know what kind of present to give her. Frank and Watt head to the City Island Holiday Fair to get some ideas, where they watch a musical performance about all of the City Island winter holidays and how they’re celebrated!
