Councilman Sock Miller finds himself in hot water with his girlfriend, Mandy. He remarks on a TV panel that he is still a bachelor because he hasn't found the right girl to meet fulfill his expectations yet. Cleo speaks her mind.

Sock Miller, the confident bachelor, counsels Ernie, a worried husband, on how to handle women. Not the least of the explosive reactions occurs when Ernie hires a beautiful secretary. Cleo knows what's best.

Sock and Mandy pose as bride and groom to help some friends get married in a secret proxy wedding. But when the bride's grandfather shows up with a shotgun Sock has some fast explaining to do. Cleo has her own thoughts on marriage.

Sock tries to promote a romance between his Aunt Gus and Mayor Peoples, but everything goes haywire. Aunt Gus in her glitzy outfit has a disastrous effect on a bigwig politician from Washington. Cleo loves Aunt Gus.

Councilman Sock runs for mayor, and almost wins! Mandy then tries to convince her friend that Sock should become the mayor's assistant. Cleo has her own opinions on the subject.

Everyone thinks Sock is ready to quit bachelorhood. Sock thinks Aunt Gus has finally found the man of her dreams and he suspects that the suitor is none other than Mayor Peoples. Cleo only wants the best for Aunt Gus.

Sock wants to put his city on the map by staging a centennial pageant to honor an ancestor of a prominent congressman. Surprisingly, the mayor's relatives were not frontier heroes like everyone thought. Cleo has a part in the pageant too.

Sock tries to help Pierre, an artist friend who needs money. He invites the mayor and Mandy to a pool party to persuade them to commission a mural painted by his friend to decorate a city school. Cleo tries to stay dry.

Sock and Mandy try to sneak away for a secret honeymoon in Palm Springs and try to throw the mayor and Rollo off the scent by staging a fight. What follows are plenty of hilarious mix-ups and lots of confusion. Cleo likes to ride in the backseat.

Sock takes a job from the district attorney in an effort to trap a thief who has been robbing the city's parking meters. Rollo mistakenly thinks Sock is stealing the nickels and Cleo takes part in all the mayhem too.
