Brackenreid attends a traditional English hunt with a wealthy friend, but the dogs find a dead body instead of a fox. While Murdoch looks into a group of animal rights activists, Julia worries about their neighbor, who is acting strangely.

Murdoch and Julia visit a prison in Kingston where they learn about a suspicious death from a familiar face. Back in Toronto, Brackenreid contends with a strike at the telephone office that puts him at odds with his estranged daughter.

When Terrence Meyers is charged with the attempted assassination of the prime minister, Murdoch, Julia, and Brackenreid are called to give evidence at a tribunal. The case against Meyers is compelling, but Murdoch believes he is innocent and races to prove it.

Julia visits a hair salon in another district only to find the owner dead on the floor. The detective of the jurisdiction rules her death an accident, but Julia, Effie, and Louise suspect foul play and attempt to untangle the case.

After Watts stumbles upon a body in an alley, Murdoch takes over the case and Watts is reassigned to investigate the robbery of an expensive painting. Meanwhile, Julia is offered an exciting opportunity, Parker is intent on arresting a suspect, and Crabtree meets a deranged fan.

Julia returns to Toronto to help Murdoch prove Violet is guilty of murder, but with Effie representing Violet as her lawyer, the case against her is difficult to build. Effie starts to worry that something has happened to Crabtree.
