Cadfael

Judith Perle, the recently-widowed wife of a rich merchant, becomes the object of interest for the men of Shrewsbury. But then a monk and one of her suitors are murdered.

Hugh Beringar has to choose between loyalty to the king and friendship with Cadfael. At the annual St. Peter's Fair in Shrewsbury, the townspeople clash with the Abbey authorities and visiting merchants. When a curfew is ignored, it leads to murder.

Cadfael finds he has a double murder to investigate following the deaths of a pregnant girl and the priest who refused to take her confession.
