The State Within

Ambassador Mark Brydon just landed from a round trip to the U.K. where he was told he will be nominated to a new position in the British Government. En route to the embassy, a plane that just departed explodes above the highway, killing all the passengers. Brydon must now face a diplomatic upheaval that could jeopardize UK/US relations.

The British Embassy is besieged by British Muslim citizens after the Governor of Virginia had started to arrest anyone of such lineage using the Patriot Act as support. In Florida, Luke Gardner's mother has arrived to await the U.S. Supreme Court decision that could free her son. In West Virginia, the investigation to find the identity of the corpse they found continues.

After thoughtful consideration, Mark has decided to go with James Sinclair's plan and broker the negotiations between the US and Eshan Borisvitch. The FBI bust is all over the news, as Luke's mom watches the news, she recognizes an old colleague of her son. Jane and Matthew try to find out who it is.

Jane finally reads the letter Luke left for her before he was executed. Eshan Borisvitch has finally arrived and Mark Brydon has invited him to his Residence. Phil Lonsdale is against the whole plan because of the possible consequences in case Uzma discovers the secret negotiations.

James Sinclair is on the run after the assassination of his brother-in-law, Eshan. The murder has Downing Street calling for Mark's head. With the death of Eshan, The US government only needs to push a little more before the UN agrees to a war. However, Mark starts to suspect everything has been engineered by the U.S. government to justify an unnecessary war.

At the Pentagon, Secretary of Defense Lynne Warner is pushing for war but Carl tries to stop the process. Mark learns that Jane was in a car accident in Tampa, while he thought she was safely back in London. He calls the hospital immediately to make sure she's under guard 24/7. Mark, then, puts everything in motion to stop the war against Tyrgyztan.

As the rhetoric speeds towards war, George's investigations take her to Charles Macintyre's office, where she finds the knife used to kill the prostitute and implicate James Sinclair. And from Tampa, Mark receives Jane's copy of Luke's DV and finally sees what happened to Saida. All the evidence points to one thing.
