Twelve of the show's veterans put their lives on the line and begin their 40-day, 40-night challenge in the sun-scorched bush of South Africa during the middle of a drought and alongside the deadliest predators on the planet.

On the drought-stricken plains of South Africa, the remaining survivalists enter the second week of their 40-day challenge. A lack of water leads one group to venture off to find others, and another group goes hunting again.

Tick-bite fever threatens to take out some of the challengers early, and deadly leopards circle the camp after smelling food. As South Africa takes a toll on the survivalists, frustrations build and explosive confrontations arise.

As the survivalists approach the halfway point of their brutal challenge, starvation and sickness are worse than ever. They must come together to help one another, but the battle for alpha male could end up being their downfall.

The survivalists miss an opportunity to secure enough protein for the team, so two members go on a hunting expedition. A lion encounter and mounting frustrations fracture the partnership, and one refuses to return to the group.

The survivalists are plagued by extreme hunger and trust issues that put team morale at an all-time low. With the rest of the team showing signs of breaking apart, one member makes a fateful decision that could cost him his life.

Contaminated fruit from a single tree sets off a shocking chain of events over a 24-hour period. As panic and illness spread through the group, the chances of any of the survivalists making it to Day 40 become questionable.

The stakes are higher than ever as deadly predators begin closing in on the remaining survivalists. They must find energy from deep within to secure food and begin their long journey to the extraction point.
