The Village

With a film being made about his life, Bert takes us back to the summer of 1914.

It is January 1915 and the Middleton farm has fallen on very hard times.

As call-up papers are delivered throughout the village, soldiers requisition the family's horse.

Bert decides that winning the annual wheelbarrow race is a matter of life and death.

Joe's brief leave from the front has come to an end, and he tries to hide his shell shock.

It is 1920 and the war is over. The village tries to come to terms with its loss.
