Life with Derek

When Casey (Ashley Leggat) is forced to share a room with her little sister Lizzie (Jordan Todosey), Casey decides that she needs a room of her own - or rather, Derek's room. Casey suggests that since she's had to leave her old life, school and friends, that it would only be fair if she was given Derek's room.

When taunted by her step-brother in the school hall, Casey (Ashley Leggat) humiliates herself by falling on top of her new fellow classmates and is left with the embarrassing nick name: Klutzilla. Despite everyone's efforts to cheer her up at home, Casey can't get out from wallowing in self-pity.

When Casey (Ashley Leggat) and Derek's (Michael Seater) parents decide to go away to a bed and breakfast for the weekend, Casey and Derek must convince their parents that they can be trusted to take care of Edwin, Lizzie, and the house without a babysitter. How? Derek suggests that Casey and he pretend to get along to show how responsible they can be.

Tired of the male-dominated grossness that has pervaded the house, Casey (Ashley Leggat) suggests making things a little more like they used to be in their old, femaledominated condo by re-decorating the living room. Nora agrees, and with the boys away at a hockey tournament, Casey, Lizzie (Jordan Todosey) and Nora (Joy Tanner) go to work.

Casey (Ashley Leggat) is shocked to discover that she has a new reputation at school for being a grade grubber: someone who nitpicks for every grade point. Casey decides to rid herself of this reputation by working with the ultimate slacker, Derek (Michael Seater), on an English project. Surely Derek won't mind doing poorly on an assignment?

When Casey (Ashley Leggat) volunteers to organize the wedding reception for Nora's (Joy Tanner) sister, Fiona (Tara Manuel Rigler), she realizes that the toughest task will be dealing with her nemesis, Cousin Vicki (Sarah Gadon). Casey tries her best to deal with Vicki's constant criticism, but tensions boil when the wedding cake spills on Vicki's dress.

When Derek (Michael Seater) gets the chicken pox, Casey (Ashley Leggat) notices he is unusually upset about not being allowed to go to school. Casey's suspicions are further raised when she overhears Derek on the phone conducting some kind of business, and when she sees Edwin (Daniel Magder) at school conducting business on Derek's behalf.

Tired of having no space for any of her stuff, Casey (Ashley Leggat) proposes that five valued areas of the house are shared among siblings. With no intention of sharing, Derek (Michael Seater) suggests playing games of chance to decide which team - the MacDonalds (Casey and Lizzie) or the Venturis (Derek, Edwin, Marti) - wins.

Nora (Joy Tanner) and George (John Ralston) need a babysitter for an upcoming day trip to Stratford, and when asked, Casey (Ashley Leggat) initially refuses to baby-sit Marti the monster. Turns out Derek (Michael Seater) would be happy to baby-sit - why? Unbeknownst to Casey his intentions are to use Marti (Ariel Waller) to impress the new girl at school, Sandra (Claire Hewlett).

When Derek (Michael Seater) flips the remote at Casey (Ashley Leggat) causing her to hurt her ankle, Casey decides to return the favor and make Derek suffer. She promises not to get Derek in trouble, but in return she will get to choose something of Derek's to take.

Offended by the video game Babe Raider, Casey (Ashley Leggat) decides to counter the sexist male attitudes in the house by coming up with a set of feminist house rules. Casey is forced to reconsider rule number one of the manifesto (no Babe Raider) when Derek (Michael Seater) informs her that the object of her affection, Sam (Kit Weyman), is a major Babe Raider player.

When Casey (Ashley Leggat) finds all the laundry has turned pink, thanks to Derek's red shirt, she suggests basic house systems - like one for laundry -- would have avoided this mess. Mom (Joy Tanner) has no time for systems, and suggests muddling along a bit longer - at least until she's back from her work retreat.

When Derek (Michael Seater) realizes Casey (Ashley Leggat) has a crush on his best friend Sam (Kit Weyman) - and that Sam is interested in Casey-he tries to put a stop to things. He does this by explaining to Sam about the male code, an unwritten set of rules which state that friends cannot date their best friend's siblings.
