A proud citizen, Dina Nath works hard to bestow the village with electricity and drives his grandson, Kanji (Abhishek Bachchan) to gift him a television set which sparks off jealousy in the village priest and instigates the village Thakur against Kanji. The love affair blossoming between Kanji and Thakur's sister, Kesar (Lara Dutta) only adds more fuel to the heat.
