Expedition with Steve Backshall

Steve and a team of world-class kayakers head to the Kamchatka peninsula in the Russian far east, to take on white-water so extreme it has never been attempted, and to explore a pristine wilderness packed with more brown bears than almost anywhere else on the planet.

Steve joins forces with ropes expert Aldo Kane and Saudi Arabian geologists Mahmoud AlShanti and Hala Alwagdani on a mission to explore an unmapped volcanic underworld in search of the longest lava tube in Arabia, which could contain bones and artifacts from ancient civilizations.

Steve and the team head to the Tien Shan mountains of Kyrgyzstan to find one of the world’s most endangered big cats – the snow leopard. If they can find evidence of a breeding population in the remote and almost inaccessible Djangart valley, they hope to persuade the government of Kyrgyzstan to turn the Djangart valley into a protected nature reserve.

Regarded as the Eden of Africa, Gabon is one of the most biodiverse countries on the planet--home to gorillas, chimpanzees, crocodiles and forest elephants. Steve heads to the Moukalaba Doudou National Park, where alongside primatologists and jungle experts, he wants to discover whether this unexplored rainforest could be home to a mythical, undiscovered population of chimpanzees.

Steve joins forces with shark scientist Mauricio Hoyos at a remote volcanic island in the Eastern Pacific. In the largest marine protected area in North America, their goal is to dive unexplored areas to discover where shark pups are born, which can help protect a new generation of these ocean giants.

Steve takes on four entirely new adventures to some of the remotest parts of the planet in search of precious natural wonders. From Mexico to the Middle East, Africa and the Russian tundra, he and his team unearth secrets of an ancient civilization and discover wildlife more at-risk than ever before.
