In the Head of a Murderer

In the season premiere, we take a closer look at Kjell-Åke Johansson, one of Sweden's worst sadists of all time. Over the course of several months, he tortured a woman on a farm in Aspa, outside Örebro, so severely that she eventually died.

One summer day in June 2017, Edvin Gyllensvaan tied an elderly couple to two kitchen chairs and slit their throats. The father of young children, who had no prior criminal record, is a mystery to the police.

Mikael Hagelin is only 17 years old when he kills his mother with forty stab wounds after many years of a dysfunctional family relationship. After four years in juvenile detention, he meets the girl of his dreams, who trusts Mikael despite his dark past. It won't be long before Mikael also stabs his live-in partner to death.

The Långshyttan murder became one of Sweden's most high-profile criminal cases in 2016, when a group of eleven people conspired to plan and carry out the murder of 61-year-old Madeleine. During an outing, several members of the group joined forces to strangle Madeleine in the back seat of a car. She was then stabbed to death, and her body was dumped in a mine shaft.

Tova Moberg, 19, is a victim of abuse at the hands of her boyfriend, Billy Fagerström. He exercises total control over her and subjects her to systematic abuse. In her diary, she describes the torture and her fear of dying.

Janne Tuomela became known as "The Smiling Dismemberer" after he stabbed his partner to death in March 2006. He kept the body on the balcony before dismembering her and dumping the body parts in a lake.
