Mother at Fourteen

Miki Ichinose, a second-year student at a prestigious junior high school, lives with her mother Kanako, a part-time waitress, her father Tadahiko, a real estate agent, and her little brother Kenta. Her parents are an ordinary couple, Tadahiko content with their life, and Kanako happy that Miki attends a top private school. Her aunt and uncle run an guitar shop where Miki often hangs out.©NIPPON TV

Miki realizes she's pregnant and nervously visits a gynecologist but panics and runs out. She can't tell Satoshi, the baby's father, and pretends everything is normal. Her mother senses something is wrong and suspects pregnancy. Even her friends notice her odd behavior, but she stays silent. Miki gathers her courage and tells Satoshi she's pregnant, leaving him shaken. Kanako and Tadahiko inform Satoshi's mother Shizuka that Miki is expecting and that the father is Satoshi. Hatano's article exposes Miki's pregnancy. Shizuka prepares to confront him and tells Satoshi to stay home, but he goes to keep his promise to Miki. When Tadahiko arrives, Miki looks dangerously unwell. Haruko finds the baby's movement has stopped: placental abruption.
