After a police operation goes wrong in Paris, police commander Samuel Kepler-who suffers from dissociative identity disorder-is transferred to Calais. Assigned to desk duty, he tries to rebuild his life with his family. But when the body of Lucie Martel, a high school student, is found on the former Calais jungle site, he is forced back into fieldwork. He must investigate with local officer Alice.

The extreme feelings provoked by Lucie Martel's death threaten Samuel Kepler's recovery. When he discovers his daughter at the home of one of the suspects, Mathias, Lucie's ex-boyfriend, his anger reaches crisis point. His personalities push to get out and one, Rajka, takes control.

After Rajka takes control, Samuel Kepler wakes up the next day on the beach. Mathias has been killed. Worried, Samuel tries to find out what happened during that night, but, short of medication, he's rapidly overwhelmed. Everything points to him as the murderer and Alice begins to be suspicious.

Alice arrests Kepler, but two discoveries throw new light on the investigation: the positions of the bodies appear inspired by a work by Auguste Rodin and the killer's real targets were the parents. The next: the sub-prefect, Mokart. In order to act freely, Kepler agrees a pact with his personalities.

The killer seems to want revenge: what did the parents do that was so terrible? Denounced by his psychiatrist, concerned for his mental health, Samuel is relieved of his post. He decided nonetheless to continue his enquiries, stop his treatment and ask his personalities for their help in the investigation.

Alice has been kidnapped. Samuel discovers the mass grave that proves the crime committed by the parents and follows the trail of a surviving daughter. Facing his own violence and that of the killer he decides to take control back from his personalities.
