In Paris, in 1930, Celestine, a sweet and kind housekeeper, takes under her wing Paul, a war orphan. Together, they leave to join Celestine's husband Borel, a grumpy gamekeeper who works on a vast estate in Sologne. To Borel's great displeasure, Paul comes under the spell of the local poacher.
