President Kennedy sets an ambitious deadline for a successful moon landing, and NASA is rocked by the Apollo 1 disaster. But NASA recovers, overhauling its designs and methods to achieve a successful manned launch with Apollo 7. Then in December 1968, Apollo 8 takes off aboard the mighty Saturn V rocket - the largest and most powerful rocket the world has ever seen.

But first, it needs to test the world's first true 'spacecraft', the Lunar Module, and identify the risks posed by the moon's unexpected 'mascons'.
