Diane brings in a man that Coach Denardo does not trust as a new co-owner of the Bulls. He offers T.D. a promotion to general manager, but under the condition that T.D. fires Coach Denardo. Tom Yinessa, in the middle of a hold-out orchestrated by his scumbag agent, is stuck with a new wide receiver who he resents for taking the spot of his best friend Jamie Waldren.

Following the departure of Coach Denardo, Teddy attempts to convince T.D. to bring his former college coach in as the new head coach, despite Diane having already promised the job to Fred Grier. Meanwhile, veteran John Manzak, is having difficulty keeping up with the rookies in training. In order to improve his game, Manzak considers using steroids.

T.D., struggling with the demands of his new job, forgets his wife's birthday. Yinessa is still in the middle of his hold-out, but wants to get back on the field. Though their relationship has gotten off to a rocky start, Yinessa turns to his new receiver Billy Cooper for help. Meanwhile, John Manzak's steroid use yields eye-catching on-field results at the risk of his physical and mental health.

After suffering a vicious hit from Manzak, Yinessa receives word from the doctor that his career as a quarterback is in serious question. His agent threatens to sue Diane for having his player on the field without a contract, a move orchestrated entirely by Teddy. Meanwhile, Manzak's steroid abuse escalates, and Bubba turns to a sex surrogate in an attempt to save his marriage.

Teddy organizes a trade for Johnny Valentine behind Diane's back, and the relationship between the two owners begins to strain as Teddy's true colors start to show. In the meantime, T.D.'s issues with his marriage deepen as his relationship with Kay progresses. The Bulls start the season with an embarrassing loss in which Mad Dog and Dr. Death make fools of themselves.

Diane, wise to Teddy's deceptive ways, threatens to reveal evidence of his insider trading to the public. To save his skin, Teddy flees the country, but not before transferring all of his stock to his daughter. T.D. struggles with guilt, both over the responsibility he feels for Yinessa's injury and for his ongoing affair with Kay. Most unsettling of all, Billy receives a death threat.

After an atrocious start to the season, The Bulls are looking for ways to turn things around. T.D. turns to Coach Grier, who establishes a new rigorous practice regimen under which the Bulls grow defiant. Meanwhile, new owner Jill Schrader attempts to instill confidence with the team, but the lingering ache of her breakup with Yinessa complicates things.

Dr. Death lays a ferocious hit on Joe Morgan during a punt return that severely injures him. While Dr. Death deals with the guilt of injuring Morgan, T.D. and Jill must defend him from the punishment of the Commissioner. Bubba and Jethro take over ownership of Jake's bar where Billy Cooper steals the girl of a vengeful nerdy patron.

The Bulls are on their way to the playoffs! However, if the team is going to have a shot, they're going to need a new running back. The front office starts to shop for offers, but hesitates when Bubba is named as their most valuable trade piece. T.D., who is to be inducted into the Hall of Fame, must choose who will be on his arm at the ceremony: his estranged wife Ellen or his girlfriend Kay.

The Bulls are headed to the playoffs for the third straight season, but Coach Grier isn't satisfied with the team's performance. Bubba and Jethro prepare for Zagreb's bachelor party which they will be hosting at their bar. Billy's younger brother Mike has just been released from jail and has difficulty keeping a job, so he turns to Billy for some help getting in with the Bulls organization.

The Bulls' need for a proper running back grows desperate. With the playoffs rapidly approaching, Jill and T.D. consider signing Brian Bosworth in a potentially reckless move. Bosworth is currently a free agent holding-out on his contract with another team until he's able to receive his full asking price; signing him could put the Bulls on thin ice with the rest of the league.

The organization sets up a music video for the team to star in, but soon realizes that the Bulls will be able to capitalize on the profits by marketing Yinessa as the star. Though he initially rejects the offer, Yinessa fears for his future and accepts it in an attempt to secure himself financially, but this casues a rift between the players.

The championship game is just around the corner, but distractions plague the Bulls once again. By posing for a supposedly cursed publication, Zagreb believes he's jinxed away his ability to kick. Meanwhile, T.D. must prove his innocence in a scalping incident. Worst of all, Yinessa, who has been caught up in commercials, must play the biggest game of the season in the wake of tragic news.
