Art and Izzy's plans to take in a foster child are stalled after Art's fired from his church. They forge ahead despite new financial stress and foster Elijah. Meanwhile, Candace (Elijah's mother) works to regain custody of Elijah. Her old flame, Ross, re-enters her picture. Candace's journey to reclaim Elijah becomes complicated by Ross' habits and clandestine interest in Art and Izzy.
