The body of a 19-year-old biker is found in a field, the day after a charity motorbike race organized by Will. Ron Weller, a mechanic who trains young bikers, his son Jimmy, and many others mourn the loss of a fellow rider. But as Geordie and Will begin to investigate, they realize that beneath the happy surface there are tensions and rivalries.

Will is involved in a motorcycling accident. The evidence suggests he was driving recklessly, and he is accused of manslaughter. Geordie can’t believe Will is guilty. His attempts to exonerate his friend stray dangerously close into recklessness himself. Geordie’s investigations uncover another body near the accident scene. Could the victims have known each other? Are the incidents related?

A protest at a college garden party turns from high jinks into something darker. During the protest, a valuable painting is stolen--then one of the university porters is found dead. Geordie and Will must determine whether the murder is an act of social protest, linked to the theft, or an act of personal revenge. Will is facing his own demons, still haunted by his responsibility for a man’s death.

Leonard is devastated when a halfway house resident is found dead. The man confessed suicidal thoughts to Will, but is this suicide, or murder? The neighbors are appalled and even as the police inquiry gets under way, Leonard comes under pressure to close the place down. Will is tormented by his own demons, and unable to forget the motorbike accident, he fears that God has abandoned him.

Two men are poisoned, one dies, but who was the intended target? Elliot hands the case to Larry while Geordie is placed on desk duty. Larry is baffled by the case, but wisely enlists the aid of Miss Scott. But as the case begins to point towards Russian spies and the KGB they turn to Geordie for help. But it is Will’s increasingly erratic behavior that is really concerning Geordie.

Will is looking to be punished. He ends up battered and bruised in the middle of nowhere until he is rescued by Mac, a local copper who calls Geordie. Geordie is furious with Will, feeling he is letting down Bonnie and Ernie but before he can talk sense into him, they both become embroiled in a murder case. Will is abducted by the prime suspect--a troubled lad of sixteen.
