The Dick Van Dyke Show

Ritchie becomes very attached to two baby ducks that were left over from a show and decides to adopt them. Rob faces the daunting task of making Ritchie understand the consequence of attempting to keep wild animals as pets that may be happier living in the wild.

Rob discovers Laura's secret bank account book and wonders why she is keeping it a secret from him. Rob concludes she must be saving money to buy him a birthday present, such as a new movie projector she knows he wants. When he receives a shirt instead of a projector, the mystery preoccupies Rob's mind until he finally must confront Laura.

Buddy's brother, Blackie, shows up unexpectedly one day at the offices of the Alan Brady Show, and Buddy wants nothing to do with him. Later, while Buddy is out, Rob invites Blackie to his house for dinner, ignorant of Blackie's past as a pool hustler. After dinner, Blackie suggests that he and Rob rack 'em up in Rob's basement.

Both Rob and Laura each experienced an unpleasant day, and it only gets worse when they meet at home for further argument. Only their pet goldfish, and their apartments four walls, can report the truth as Laura and Rob spin colorful, self-aggrandizing versions to their friends as to the details of their argument.

With Rob's dentist, Jerry, away at a convention, Rob is forced to see another dentist after breaking his tooth on a chicken bone. Rob eventually suffers pangs of guilt for letting another dentist, one he finds superior to Jerry, work on his teeth, and feels he must do all he can to avoid letting Jerry find out.

When Rob accidentally mars the wall in the Petrie's living room, he and Laura hire Vito Giotto to repaint. Over the course of the project, Vito turns their lives completely upside down without ever completing the job he was initially hired to perform. Before Rob fires Vito, Vito comes through for them in the end.
