Sunil, a medical student, loves Shanta, but his mother disapproves and arranges his marriage to Shobha. He promises Shanta's dying mother to marry her but leaves to finish his studies. Returning as a doctor, he finds Shanta married to an older, wealthy widower. Heartbroken, he confronts her for answers.
