The Silich's are a young family of five from Tauranga on a very tight budget. They have learned to shop around and purchase their groceries from multiple supermarkets and a community initiative, helping to keep their spending down every week. But, the downside of having a tight budget is that they aren't buying enough food to fill the adults up.

The Gee-Wanhill's are a multi-generational family from beautiful Taupō. This busy household is full of fussy eaters and they are spending a fortune on food every week, due to lack of communication and being beholden to everyone's culinary whims. Mum runs a gym out of their basement, home-schools the kids and works at a restaurant in the evenings and together with fire mechanic dad.
