Landscape Artist of the Year

The search for the UK's best landscape painter kicks off, as a new batch of 36 hopefuls head to Smeaton's Tower in Plymouth, Devon, for their first challenge.

The contestants' second challenge takes them to the Herstmonceux Observatory in East Sussex, as the search for Landscape Artist of the Year 2019 continues.

Eight artists head to the banks of the River Tyne, where they have four hours to create an artwork of the engineering marvel and impress the judges.

The contestants head to Sussex's Herstmonceux Castle, hoping to capture the historic splendour of one of the oldest buildings still standing in Britain.

In the fifth heat, eight artists head to Tyneside to capture its industrial heritage with an artwork inspired by the Gateshead Tyne Bridge. Opened in 1928, the bridge has become iconic to the local area and people.

Joan Bakewell and Stephen Mangan head to the south coast as the artists create seascapes of Plymouth Sound and its enchanting, historic Drake Island. The semi-final is coming up, so wowing the judges is more important than ever.

The judges have chosen the semi-finalists, and the first set of winners from the regional heats head to Scotland, to the port town of Cromarty. Joined by the Wildcard Winner, the semi-finalists must capture the rugged small town.

In the grand final of 2019's competition, the artists must impress the judges in their toughest challenge yet: a night-painting of the iconic Battersea Power Station.
