Stunned by an unordered electrician snooping in her loft, Laura sets out to uncover his ruse. At the building management company, James Matthews cajoles her to move out for a few weeks. Refusing to do so, she is drugged and institutionalized. When arsonists set the building ablaze, Laura's shell-shocked neighbors turn against her.

A wealthy American hires the Steele agency when the casket at his nephew's funeral contains the body of another man, wearing the broken Maltese Cross...

The club's owner who is hosting a reunion of former members of a high school team and their wives, suspects that one of the players is in danger and secretly hires the pair of private eyes before the murderer can strike.

Remington agrees to get Chalmers off the hook by explaining the mistaken identity to his three English "cousins" at the lavish Rutherford mansion. They strangely refuse to believe he isn't the Duke's son Reggie. Targeted for murder, the soon-to-be-rich Remington/Reggie sets out after the seemingly irrefutable evidence that he is Reggie. Laura and Chalmers vie for his allegiance.

Running from the scene of a murder, Steele eludes his pursuers, only to trip and be knocked unconscious. By the time Laura arrives, he doesn't know who he is or why he came to his native country...

A glimpse of the fledgling con artist's life arouses more than a glint of recognition in Remington, who sees himself in Jackie. While investigating murder and chasing hardened criminals, Steele finds himself trying to reach out to Jackie before it's too late.

Laura is especially angry at being deceived by the game-playing G.W. Wainwright, but she accepts the challenge to prove to Remington that she is the master sleuth. As they set out separately to find the missing man, it soon becomes apparent that the situation is not what it appears to be, and what emerges is a strange and dangerous case.

The wounded detectives wind up recounting the fascinating case to Mildred from their hospital beds. In flashback, the investigation unfolds as the pair of private eyes and trio of stars fall victim to various mishaps, and a wealthy socialite is murdered. Returning to present time at the hospital, the danger to Remington is suddenly revived.

After mistakenly serenading Nathan Fitts, who had just pulled the trigger on his boss, Teri and Toni proceed to Remington's birthday celebration where a bullet meant for the ditzy duo interrupts their "jinglegram." Laura and Remington's investigation into the killing of breath-spray king Myron Flowers reveals a web of secret romance and infidelity.

An old-time hack, who hadn't sold a book in years, got a seven-figure offer for film rights to his novels; however he died the night he signed the contract after having willed his money to the guild. As Remington and Laura pursue the investigation, she is inexplicably drawn to Butch Bemis, a chauvinistic writer or macho mysteries.

"Tomorrow's Food" hires the Steele Agency to find it's missing critic, whose real identity is unknown even to the magazine since the "Dick L'Orange" columns are mailed from a post office box at Confidential Mail, Inc. When Laura and Remington finally find "Dick L'Orange," they shelter him while seeking the would-be killer.

Maxwell Donohue, the original Atomic Man, turns up irate at a press conference that is introducing his replacement, and he vows to kill the 25-yea-old producer, Steve Spooner, before he destroys his creation. At a convention of "Tommies" (loyal fans of the show), Laura reaches out to the fugitive Donahue.

Martha Ryan believes her husband James is being bilked, having invested half a million dollars in the unproductive Courtney Doll Company. A visit to the barren factory leads Remington to George E. Mulch's seedy office where the detective suffers the blows of an angry loan shark. It seems the gullible "idea man" Mulch has handed over the company's finances to some formidable characters.

To the chagrin of her managers, Rocky's show is sold out at a major theatre, and they aim to find a way to end her career, fast. Remington and Laura attend her opening, which is brought to a screaming halt when a sandbag pulverizes Rocky's piano. As the two detectives launch their investigation, a bungling Texas millionaire investor (who's smitten with the singer) decides to get into the act.

A professional killer shoots a corporate president in call girl Clarissa's apartment...

Remington plots to bust Eddie at poker. However, Grogan outsmarts Steele and walks off with the sum Laura and Remington were loaned by their client, Vigilante Insurance. The private eyes set out to nail Grogam in Las Vegas, as does Vigilante's Norman Keyes, who thinks Remington is swindling the company.

Hired to catch Grace by antique shop proprietor Leonard Majak, Laura confronts her at her home and then presents the stolen objects to Sterling, the antiques importer. Suspecting foul play after Sterling's death, Laura and Remington investigate.

Everyone likes aspiring illustrator Arte, but judging from Dick Darkside's misadventures in the comics, it appears that someone aims to kill him. As Remington and Laura begin their investigation, all motives point to "The Blaster's" famous creator, Raymond Kelly, who feels threatened by new young talent. However, as usual, all is not as it seems.

Mike Spencer aims to sell the revolutionary recipe to the highest bidder but his partner, Walter Munzinger, won't let that happen. A box of the prototypes turns up at the Steele Agency, as do three of Walter's desperate relatives. Meanwhile, Sandy Dalrymple hires Remington for security and love on the tennis circuit, and unwittingly becomes a target for murder by accepting a box of cookies.

Whenever Remington tries to steal away for an amorous interlude with Laura, business beckons. He therefore hires amateur actress Bertha Melneck to pose as a client whose husband takes unexplained trips...

After dodging a bullet while checking for hidden skeletons in Westfield's seemingly empty closet, Laura decides to take a closer look into a three month period he spent in Mexico ten years earlier...
