Beginner Guitar Lessons

Lesson 7: The Most Common Strum Pattern by Peter Vogl will teach you a strum pattern that has been used in thousands of popular songs. Peter will also cover a new chord and progressions. You will learn how to play chords like a D/F# which is when you add an F# note to a D chord. Peter has included exercises and tips to help you play and switch chords smoothly, efficiently, and in time.

Lesson 8: Practicing New Scales by Peter Vogl will teach the beginning guitarist a few moveable scales. We will cover the G Major, A Major, and A minor scales. After Peter teaches you the notes of each scale, he will show you the techniques required to play each scale smoothly and in time with a metronome. We'll finish the lesson by playing the scales along with jam tracks of a full band.

Lesson 9: Playing Bass Notes and a Waltz by Peter Vogl will teach you how to play bass note strums. This popular technique started in country and bluegrass and has made it's way into rock. In addition to the detailed instruction on bass strums, Peter will teach you new chords, strum patterns, and how to play in 3/4 (waltz) time.

Lesson 10: Beginner Fingerpicking by Peter Vogl will teach you how to fingerpick. Using close up shots and detailed instruction, Peter will walk you through the basics of proper right hand technique including three different fingerpicking patterns. You will also learn a new chord progression and get tips on how to switch between chords smoothly while fingerpicking.

Lesson 11: Playing Arpeggios by Peter Vogl will teach you an arpeggio picking pattern and chords that can be played up and down the neck of the guitar. Peter will teach you a new set of chords and also show the correct thumb position. You will also learn how to play a new strum pattern and arpeggios (one note at a time) with these chords.

Lesson 12: Chord Planing by Peter Vogl will teach you moveable chord shapes for the guitar. For example, you can take the standard open E chord shape and move it up the neck to different frets to create new chords with cool sounds. Peter will teach you three chord shapes that can be used for this "planing" concept. You will learn how to use these chords and also some new strum patterns.
