Canal Boat Diaries

As Robbie begins his 170-mile journey across northern England, he encounters problems when his narrowboat's propeller goes out in Wigan and he runs aground in Blackburn. Despite the complications, Robbie pushes onward to the Burnley embankment.

Robbie takes a picturesque journey across the Leeds and Liverpool Canal and helps a group of hire boaters in Gargrave, North Yorkshire. He also visits Bingley Five Rise Locks, a wonder of the inland waterways.

Robbie explores the Victorian village of Saltaire in West Yorkshire and searches for an abandoned waterway on the Aire and Calder Navigation.

On the last leg of his journey across northern England, Robbie tackles the fast-flowing River Ouse and is forced to make an emergency stop. The final destination on his tour is Ripon Basin, at the outer reaches of the inland waterways.
