Cod and Communism - The Story of the Cod Wars

These were the cod wars, three conflicts between Britain and Iceland over who had the right to fish in the north Atlantic. In each, Iceland extended its territorial fishing limits, eventually to 200 miles. Its tiny fleet of gunboats tried to frighten off the trawlers of Hull, Grimsby and Fleetwood. The trawlers, in turn, were defended by the much bigger and better armed Royal Navy.
