Dinosaur Discovery

Today we will be taking a deep dive into the life, evolution and discovery of Stegosaurus, examining just how it used its strange adaptations to flourish in the unpredictable and ever changing world of the Jurassic. We will look at where it lived, how it became extinct, and how it was ultimately dug up by scientists millions upon millions of years later.

Some dinosaurs, while not the most beloved and revered animals of the Mesozoic, have been shaped and moulded by popular culture to the point where they are no longer the organisms they once were. Diplodocus was a Late Jurassic sauropod that boasted a terrifyingly powerful tail - one that could have been used to protect itself from some of the largest and toughest predators of the Jurassic. Today we will be examining exactly what made that amazing tail so special, where the dinosaur lived, and how it was discovered, amongst other features of its incredible existence.

The Hell Creek Formation is famous for containing the fossils of North America's very last dinosaurs, the ones that would have been alive to experience the cataclysmic mass extinction event that put an end to their entire kind. Some of the rocks are even young enough to topple over the Cretaceous-Paleocene boundary into the beginning of the Cenozoic era.

Today, we will be running through what the recent additions to the Jurassic Park story - 2015's Jurassic World, 2018's Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and 2022's Jurassic World: Dominion - got wrong. We will be looking at the scientific errors as a whole, exploring broadly, across the major dinosaur groups, what made the science in these films stand out.

Today, we will be taking a look at the life and natural history of Oviraptor - we will explore everything from its initial discovery, to the modern science that disproves important theories made surrounding its lifestyle. We will look at where the dinosaur lived, what it looked like, how it has been represented in the media, and who its closest relatives were amongst the dinosaurs.

Deinosuchus, whose name translates to 'terrible crocodile' in English, is the subject of today's video - this gigantic, ten metre long ambush predator was found across both sides of the Western Interior Seaway in the Campanian age of the Late Cretaceous, between roughly eighty two and seventy three million years ago.
