Jonathan Bird's Blue World

In the Season 8 premiere, Jonathan's longtime cameraman/editor decides to break out of his desk job and get scuba certified. Then he and Jonathan travel to Florida to film goliath groupers-huge fish that reach 800 pounds!

The Blue World team travels to Vermont, USA, where they explore the depths of Lake Champlain and find the wrecks of old canal boats, remarkably well-preserved in the cold fresh water. Then, the biology of pipefish and seahorses is explored.

Jonathan takes his newly-scuba certified cameraman Zach to northern Maine to meet a famous Atlantic wolffish couple named Bob and Jane, and learn how they catch crabs for dinner. Then Blue World travels to Cozumel to explore a cave containing some of the most unique and rare cave fauna in the world.

In Lake Champlain, Jonathan explores wrecks that are so deep; there is no natural light on them--ever. Then he travels to an aquarium a mile above sea level to meet some high-altitude sharks and sawfish!

Jonathan, and his camera operators, take a transmitter into a Florida cave while other staff members walk in the forest above with a receiver, to learn where the aquifer goes. Then the Blue World team travels to the coast to join a Bull Shark diving trip and learns just how dangerous Bull Sharks really are.

Jonathan explores the wreck of a horse-powered ferry, the only known wreck of its kind in the world. Then Blue World travels to Jackson Blue Springs in Marianna, Florida, where we dive with world-renown cave rescue diver Edd Sorenson.

Jonathan, and his camera operators, dive a famous and extremely dangerous cave in Florida known as Friedman Sink, where the current carries you downstream to the exit at Catfish Hotel. Then Blue World heads to the coast to dive off Riviera Beach where the team explores three shipwrecks on a single dive.

The Blue World team divides up into two teams, with one heading to Florida and the other to Hawaii, to experience night dives offshore over thousands of feet of water. At night all types of interesting creatures come up from the depths. Then they head to Ginnie Springs to explore a high-flow cave that requires incredible effort to swim up inside.

Jonathan heads to Roatan, in Honduras, to meet the local population of sea turtles, where he witnesses an altercation over delicious sponges and ways in which fish steal food from turtles. Then Blue World explores an incredibly tight and dangerous cave in Florida.

Jonathan returns to one of his favorite dive sites, the Blue Heron Bridge in Riviera Beach, Florida, in search of a rare and amazing fish: The Stargazer. Then he invites his wife Christine and son Liam to go meet some playful seals in Massachusetts.

Jonathan's enitre family travels to the Turks & Caicos Islands in search of a famous local celebrity-Jojo the friendly dolphin. Then Blue World explores a hidden cave-keeping an eye out for the alligators, for which it's named!

Jonathan and Zach explore the reefs and famous Blue Hole of Belize, where they find an amazing number of animals including curious groupers, a friendly shark, a coral cave full of tiny fish, and spooky deep stalactites!

This episode celebrating diving in the dark features the Blue World team exploring an ocean cave in Belize known as Winter Wonderland, where all the formations are covered in a snow-like coating of light sand. Then they explore the reefs of Belize at night. Finally, they visit a cave called Hole in the Wall, located in a pond in Florida and accessible only by boat.
