Music Theory - Circle of 5ths # 1 Introduction

In this series of episodes, I will also show you all the Magic Circle Tips so that you can make the Circle of 5ths come alive to you as a Dynamic Circle, and not a Static circle that you often see in books.

Count the number of letters there are in the Circle. Only 12. Why 12? Actually there are only 7 Letters & 5 with Enharmonic Names

Does your circle with the letters written look like the circle on the left? Does your circle with the letters written look like the circle on the right? 1. The one one the left is a static circle because the letters are facing you. 2. The one on the right it is no longer a static circle, why do you think that is the case? Watch the next video!

Most of the circles we see in books have the letters facing you. We are not going to do that. We are going to make the Circle come to live. Write the tones so that they face each other.

Big Tip: Always put the key at 12 o clock position. In this way, you will be able to find all your 12 Major keys & 7 diatonic chords easily! No guess work at all!

This is the reason why sometimes the Circle is called Circle of 4ths.
