The Big C

Limited series premiere. Cathy (Laura Linney) plans a birthday party for Adam's sweet sixteen. Paul brings in a new assistant. Andrea has trouble fitting in with her new roommate at fashion school.

Cathy upsets Paul when she tries to help him move on by signing him up for an online dating service. Andrea fails to impress her design instructor, Isaac Mizrahi (Himself). Sean feels inspired to make a charitable donation.

Cathy experiences problems with her new roommate after she checks in to hospice. Adam confronts Paul about his extreme lack of parental guidance. Cathy inadvertently inspires Andrea to get her sparkle back. Cathy gets a visit from Dr. Sherman (Alan Alda).

Series finale. Cathy gets a visit from her estranged dad. Sean develops mixed feelings about his impending kidney surgery. Andrea receives an opportunity of a lifetime. Adam surprises his family by fulfilling one of Cathy's wishes.
