The Night Shift

Topher takes over as chief of the night shift in the Season 2 opener. Also: TC is temporarily suspended; Jordan is scrutinized for her mishandling of the man who shot a recovered Topher; a father is trapped under an elevator; Ragosa returns to the ER.

The night shift is tested when a rancher accidentally shoots his wife. Elsewhere, TC heads to a teen party to save the life of a young football star; Jordan and Kenny treat a beauty queen in severe distress; and Topher makes a decision about his job.

A serious car crash results in two teens and a young pregnant woman arriving at the hospital, pushing the night shift members to their limit. Meanwhile, Paul tends to a quirky, wealthy hospital benefactor.

An injured skydiver is rescued, but there's more to the case than meets the eye. Meanwhile, the night-shift staffers treat an electrocuted janitor, then scramble to save his wife and children when they fall ill to life-threatening symptoms; and Paul learns about his limitations as a doctor.

A patient arrives with radiation poisoning, spinning the night shift into chaos and putting it into lockdown. Meanwhile, staffers speed to a serious car crash, where they discover an injured police officer; TC's troubled sister-in-law visits; and a former patient harasses Jordan.

A thick fog rolls into San Antonio, stranding TC, Jordan and Paul far from the hospital. The trio must then try to save victims of a grisly truck crash, and soon discover that their patients are illegal immigrants. Also: Two siblings are treated at the ER in a case that stirs up Topher's war memories.

TC's sister-in-law lands in the ER after falling down stairs, and complicated truths about the accident emerge. Meanwhile, staffers treat a boy who fell down a well; Ragosa's teen daughter visits the ER; and Drew spirals into a deeper depression.

A downtown gas explosion sends dozens of casualties to the hospital. TC, Drew and Gwen scramble to the chaotic scene as Topher leads the team at the hospital. Meanwhile, Paul delves into his first night in surgery rotation while dealing with the unexpected arrival of his neurosurgeon father.

A shooting sends two of Drew's friends to the ER. Meanwhile, a woman's psychosis worsens, becoming a danger to herself and her father; Paul breaks hospital rules to treat a 9-year-old boy with severe cystic fibrosis; financial problems plague Ragosa.

Jordan and Krista improvise emergency care for the victim of a motorcycle accident on a lonely rural road. At the hospital, TC and Paul scramble to diagnose a girl's insatiable appetite; Topher treats a friend who's hiding a perilous secret; and Drew's heroic actions go viral.

A building collapse at a rodeo injures a cowboy (Timothy Busfield), who begins to show bizarre symptoms. Meanwhile, a patient appears to be suffering from an appendectomy that Krista had performed weeks earlier, and Scott causes a serious car accident and insists on treating the teen victim.

The team meets TC's group therapy leader (Trace Adkins), who offers the crew a special surprise. Meanwhile, a 9-year-old boy's serious fever is treated; Topher must make a big decision about going on an emergency overseas trip; and odd cases abound during a full moon.

Drew and Paul go to the scene of a multi-car crash, where Paul attempts a daring rescue, only to sustain injuries that could jeopardize his career. Meanwhile, TC and Topher journey to Afghanistan to treat an old friend who needs medical attention.

TC and Topher return from Afghanistan to find Jordan's life on the line and San Antonio under fire as two deadly snipers terrorize the city. TC and Scott unite to care for a comatose Jordan and her unborn baby.
