In Lisbon, Maria Joao spends her days photographing wartime Portugal. But when a raid reveals her family's ties to Nazi tungsten, she joins the SOE.

Maria Joao loses track of her husband when the Australians occupy Timor. As danger grows in Lisbon, she searches her father-in-law’s records for signs he’s facilitating shipments to the Reich.

As the PVDE tightens its grip on subversive movements in the capital, Maria Joao accepts a new mission: spying on Siegfried. At a grand party, she kisses the suspected spy.

Maria Joao steals a microfilm containing the Reich’s plans for Portugal, but Siegfried reclaims it with a kiss. The PVDE continues its search for Roberto, who tries to lose himself at a football match.

The mine is back in business after a standoff at the port, and business between Portugal and Germany resumes. Maria Joao tracks a tungsten shipment but loses it. Her affair with Siegfried puts her under watch.

After a meeting with Ian Fleming at a casino, Siegfried is revealed as a British spy. Using blackmail photos taken by Maria Joao and Richard, the Allies uncover Germany’s plans to invade Portugal.

As the Allies plan to steal tungsten, Carlos threatens to reveal Maria Joao’s relationship with Siegfried to her family. A diplomatic crisis begins between Portugal and England. Manoel is killed in an ambush.

Rose betrays Maria Joao, confessing that she couldn’t refuse the money. Maria Joao realizes her life is in danger, but she is saved by Siegfried. Apollo, MI6’s man in Lisbon, is revealed.
