Ziggy and The Zoo Tram

Flora starts moulting and is so embarrassed by her grey stubble that she goes into hiding. Unable to persuade her to come to the zoo, Ziggy transforms the tram into a fanboat to get them across the lake. The resulting wind prompts him to make a feather boa so Flora can cover up. Flora loves it.

Lionel always likes to look smart, so when an accident with Scottie’s packed lunch makes a mess of his safari suit, it’s a major crisis. Miss Emily is able to dry clean the suit, and Ziggy transforms the tram into a bi-plane to get them to the zoo on time.

Miss Emily wants to visit the jungle to see the ‘Empress Emily’, a rare exotic vine named after her by a friendly zoo visitor. Shackleton takes fright at a spider and gets lost in the trees. And by the time he’s found, it’s time to go – without having seen the Empress.

Tony wants his friends to do a concert for his dad, but he insists on such lengthy rehearsals that by the time they arrive at his dad’s tree, it’s too late. Tony is devastated to miss seeing his dad.

Bunbury plans a modest celebration to mark the 100th journey of the tram, but for reasons he can’t fathom, his friends don’t want to join in. Unbeknown to him, they have something bigger in mind: a surprise party.

Brian has a cold and wants to stay home in bed, but Miss Emily insists that a mug of her special Hot Lemon Drink will cure him. However, when collecting the lemons causes the tram’s batteries go flat, it takes Brian and a turbine – Ziggy’s latest invention – to generate enough energy to get them to the zoo on time.

Lionel takes the others camping, but can’t sleep because he’s afraid of the dark. Rather than admit his fear, he tries to switch on the tram’s lights and accidentally wakes everyone up instead. When his friends finally discover his secret, they rally round to help – Bunbury even shares his tent with Lionel so he can feel safe.

On a soggy morning, Tony makes disparaging comments about the Penguins game of leapfrog. Why leap when you can fly? The trouble is, penguins can’t. But when the friends discover that the swamp is flooded, and the tram can’t pass through, they’re stuck.

Going through the tunnel, Amy accidentally drops Flora’s new phone in the water – or so she thinks – and she dives in to recover it. But Amy goes missing in the attempt, and Ziggy turns the tram into a submarine to rescue her.

In a game of football, Brian learns he has a strong kick but his aim is useless. He can’t be bothered to practice. But when their journey through the tunnel is brought to an abrupt halt by problem with the tram’s overhead mechanism, he has to think again.

When Brian sees the penguins skating on the frozen lake, he assumes that his sporting prowess will make him an expert on ice. But he quickly finds that’s not the case. Brian falls over on the ice, and can’t get up, so Ziggy goes to the rescue with a snowmobile transformation.

It’s another cold day, and Scottie has made a present for the FZK: a penguin carved from ice. Impatient to get it to the zoo, Scottie loads it on the tram – and breaks it. His friends are keen that he makes a replacement. So keen, in fact, that when Ziggy transforms the tram into an ice digger, they take over and sculpt the ice themselves.

Miss Emily wants to take a Polaroid of the rare blue-legged blinky gull for her very important, very formal photo album. But when she twists her ankle in the attempt, she is forced to give up. She rejects her friends’ offers to help as of an inferior standard.

When a new gadget Ziggy has made for the tram goes wrong and upsets Lionel and Miss Emily, Ziggy loses his confidence. When the Tram subsequently gets into a little difficulty on the way to the Zoo, Ziggy refuses to help or use any of the Trams gadgets he has installed.

Lionel isn’t getting any sleep because he is scared of the dark and strange noises, although he won’t admit it. Miss Emily decides she will help him confront his worries. With Ziggy’s help they set the tram up as a ‘ghost tram’ to try and get Lionel to face his fears.

When Tony loses his voice, Amy, Scottie and Shackleton take it literally and unbeknown to the other friends begin a search for it. As Tony, frustrated by his inability to talk is administered revolting medicine by Miss Emily the rest of the gang set up a search party for the missing penguins.

When Lionel gets the hiccups his friends try their best to find a cure. They try every remedy they can think of but nothing works. Lionel is distraught at the idea of returning to the Zoo hiccupping instead of roaring and refuses to go.

The three scouts – Scottie, Amy and Shackleton – are trying for their tracker’s badge and Scottie is particularly excited because it’ll be his first. He learns about camouflage, footprints and keeping quiet. But his over-enthusiasm makes him a poor tracker, and he fails.

Flora feels she is old enough to go home by herself. But Miss Emily will only let her do so if she takes Brian too. Flora is appalled – Brian is deeply uncool – but she has no choice. She is initially resentful of his presence and determined to rely on the satnav on her mobile phone for directions.

Ziggy creates a ‘Boosterfication Unit’ to make the tram go faster, and arranges to stop off in the mountains so they can mine some ‘boosternite’ with which to fuel it. But in his haste to dig up the boosternite, Ziggy forgets to put the handbrake on the tram, which then rolls down the mountain – and off the track, crashing into the swamp hundreds of metres below!

It’s Inspection Day for the Lionel’s scouts, so when Shackleton’s discovery that he has nits threatens to jeopardise the inspection, Lionel is annoyed that he hasn’t washed properly. As the nits spread, so Lionel’s criticism spreads too.

Shackleton wants to be a superhero, but all his attempts to fly meet with disaster. Frustrated, he throws his can of superhero spray out of the tram window – and accidentally knocks off a tiny cog from the tram’s monorail hook. The tram is at a standstill and can’t get to the zoo without the cog.

During a game of chase Amy, Scottie and Shackleton run onto the Tram and accidentally set it in motion. They are trapped on the tram as it circles the crater at increasing speed. The rest of the gang have to find a way of stopping the tram before it leaves the crater.

Lionel won’t allow Amy to climb the mountain with him because “penguins don’t bounce”. Even when Amy invents an air cushion to protect herself, he still says she can’t come. But when Lionel gets into difficulties, Ziggy transforms the tram into a helitram and Amy goes to rescue him.
