In the PDS-friendly world of Roarton, Kieren's dream of escape may be further away.

Kieren's dreams of escape are left in tatters when MP Maxine imposes an undead travel ban on Roarton, along with stringent measures for PDS sufferers to pay back their debt to society. Meanwhile, Kieren's ex-HVF sister Jem has returned to school. She feels completely alienated until she's revealed to be a war hero.

Kieren and Simon must work together on the Give Back Scheme; Freddie Preston returns.

Kieren feels conflicted about seeing Simon and frustrated over his cult leader persona.

Kieren is wrongly accused of freeing the rabids at the GP surgery, and faces the Parish council.

Simon believes he is the key to the second rising; Gary thinks Kieren is planning an attack.
