The Beverly Hillbillies

The Clampetts, a rural Ozark family, relocate to Beverly Hills after $25-million-worth of oil is discovered on their property. After much coaxing by Cousin Pearl, Jed Clampett sells the swamp to Mr. Brewster of the OK Oil Company and moves the family to a mansion in Beverly Hills to begin a new life.

As the Clampetts begin to settle into their new environs in California, they must first adjust to such things such as refrigerators, ovens, flamingoes, and the "cement pond." Meanwhile, Miss Hathaway, executive secretary to banker Milburn Drysdale, mistakes the Clampetts for "domestic" help.

Jane Hathaway finds the task of helping the Clampetts become more sophisticated a much tougher task than she envisioned, while Pearl Bodine attempts to get the attention of Mr. Brewster.

Mr. Drysdale panics when Mrs. Drysdale returns from Boston early because he does not wish for her to meet the Clampetts. Mr. Drysdale thus sets Miss Hathaway on a mission to entice the Clampetts to go on a trip to Palm Springs. Meanwhile, Granny and Jed come to suspect that Mrs. Drysdale is a drunk and make plans to cure her.

Upon Mr. Drysdale's advice to buy good stock, Jed purchases farm animals to raise. Granny prepares her special mash to help cure Mrs. Drysdale of her drinking problem. Meanwhile, Mrs. Drysdale is convinced she is imagining things, because she sees Granny hovering outside her window, and a goat and chicken in her bathroom.

Granny longs for Missouri as folks are not as welcoming in their new hometown. Jed convinces her that they should take the initiative of getting to know their new neighbors themselves instead. Meanwhile, Jed tries to lure Pearl to visit while she attempts to marry the oilman, while also searching for a young man for Jethrine.

Elly May starts wearing dresses, she but takes it as an insult when someone says she looks like a city girl. Mr. Drysdale talks Jed into taking in his butler Ravenswood and upstairs girl Marie in a plan to civilize the Clampetts, but the Clampetts do not quite understand the idea behind servitude.

Pearl continues to pursue Mr. Brewster, while a Jasper Depew courts Jethrine. Jed tries to enroll Jethro into an exclusive Beverly Hills elementary school. Only when the headmistress of the school learns that the Clampetts are neighbors of Mr. Drysdale, who holds the mortgage on the school, does she warm up to the idea.

Misunderstandings abound as the spoiled college student Sonny Drysdale attempts to woo Elly May, only to flee back home to his mother in the end. To smooth things over Granny and Jed invite the Drysdale's to their home for Thanksgiving.

Sonny Drysdale decides that he needs to be Pygmalion to Elly's Galatea, and transform Elly from a "hillbilly" into a sophisticated "woman of society." Meanwhile, Granny creates love charms for Elly, Miss Jane, and Jed.

When Sonny Drysdale promises to give Elly May a ring, Granny thinks Sonny is going to propose and decides to play matchmaker. Cousin Pearl cannot stand the idea that Elly May will get married before Jethrine, so Pearl aims to play matchmaker herself between Jethrine and Jasper Depew.

The Clampetts are offended when Sonny Drysdale jilts Elly May, and thus begins a feud between the Clampetts and the Drysdales. Mr. Drysdale eventually acquiesces, and promises Sonny will propose, but in the end, Elly decides she does not want to marry Sonny after all.

The Clampetts take their first plane flight back to Missouri for Christmas to visit cousin Pearl, who is busy cooking up a feast to win Mr. Brewster's unwilling heart. Mr. Brewster insults Pearl when he asks her to be his housekeeper, when she thought he was going to propose.

Back in Missouri for Christmas, Elly May bonds with her old animal friends. Pearl plays the piano for the "new" movie in town (the silent version of Ben Hur) to impress Mr. Brewster. While Mr. Brewster tries to sneak out of the movie, Homer Winch takes the initiative and declares his love for Pearl.

Mr. Brewster is not wild about marriage, but the whole county knows that Cousin Pearl has her hat set for the man. Jed comes up with a plan that will help Pearl save face by having Mr. Brewster propose to her in public, and then have Pearl turn him down. Jed does not count on Mr. Brewster's convincing proposal.

As the Clampetts pack up to return to Beverly Hills, Jethrine tries to sneak Jazzbo Depew back with them, and Elly says goodbye to her animals. Back in Beverly Hills, Miss Hathaway dresses the vamp to meet Jethro at the airport. Once home, the feuding begins between Granny and Pearl over who runs the kitchen.

Granny and Cousin Pearl are at each other's throats over who is going to take care of the family's cooking, and the house chores, so Jed is forced into the role of mediator, and keeping them a part. Jed tries to calm things down around the homestead by taking a sightseeing tour of Beverly Hills.

Mrs. Drysdale visits a health farm with the goal of returning as "a new wife" for her husband, while Mr. Drysdale attempts to persuade Cousin Pearl into being his housekeeper. Confused, the Clampett's believe Mr. Drysdale wants to marry Pearl, so Jed hatches a plan to "save" the Drysdale's marriage.

Upon hearing Cousin Pearl's yodeling lessons, wild animals respond from all over to what they deem "the call of the wild," while Mrs. Drysdale complains about the Pearl's singing to the police. Mrs. Drysdale also calls the dog catcher on the Clampett's dog, Duke.

Two of Pearl's most ardent former suitors visit her in Beverly Hills, but Pearl mistakenly believes they are there to propose to her because a letter they had sent prior to their arrival mentions "an engagement." Jed throws a wingding for gentlemen visitors, and the duo play music for the event.

Granny cannot stand Pearl's yodeling, so she reports her to the police. When one of the officers takes Pearl outside to the squad car, Granny has a change of heart, and becomes sad and contrite about calling the law. Meanwhile, the police find Granny's secret moonshine still.

Jed and Duke (his dog) are both downhearted without a woman in their lives, that is, until they meet a woman named Mlle. Denise, and her poodle. Duke takes a fancy to the poodle and Jed takes a fancy to Denise. Meanwhile, Mrs. Drysdale has arranged a "marriage" between her dog, Claude, and Mlle. Denise's poodle.

A conman named Harry Jones targets the Clampetts and pretends to be an old friend of Jeds, offering him the bargain of a lifetime when he proposes Jed purchase Jed Griffith Park, the Hollywood Bowl, and the freeway from him, land Jones does not own in the first place.

When rival banker Bill Hacker challenges Mr. Drysdale to a skeet shoot, Mr. Drysdale has no choice but to enlist the sharpshooting skills of Jed by temporarily making him Vice President of the bank. When Hacker discovers Drysdale's ruse, he demands he be allowed to pick Drysdale's partner, who turns out to be Granny.

Mrs. Drysdale wants to get rid of the Clampett's before the arrival of Mrs. Smith-Standish, the head of a local historical society. However, Mrs. Smith-Standish visits the Clampett's first, and becomes enchanted with their way of life, even uncovering evidence that Jed's ancestors arrived in America prior to the Mayflower.
