Surf N' Turf

Surf & Turf starts with a Titanic challenge. As Cobh begins its Titanic centenary commemorations, the Irish navy treats Martin and Paul to a selection of the dishes the ill-fated passengers would have enjoyed on board. Using this menu as their basis, the chefs have 24 hours to find great local ingredients. Paul is on the hunt for wild rabbits while Martin is searching Cork Harbour for turbot.

Martin and Paul travel to Westport House in Co. Mayo where they enjoy afternoon tea with the aristocratic descendants of the Pirate Queen Grace O’Malley who roamed the seas in the 16th century. They’re given the run of the house for their Surf & Turf challenge but first they have to find their ingredients. Martin discovers a great organic trout farm while Paul roams the hills looking for lamb.

Surf & Turf goes wild in the Burren in Co. Clare. Martin and Paul discover they’re going back to pre-historic times as their challenge is taking place outdoors in an ancient fort. So Paul decides he’s going to spit-roast a goat! While Martin is on the hunt for some lobsters he can bake underground.

Port Magee in Co. Kerry was once a thriving centre for mackerel so Martin knows exactly what ingredients he’s going to use for the Surf & Turf challenge. Paul discovers an artisan chocolatier and some organic duck. The question is, will his unusual combination win him the challenge?

Dublin Bay Prawns are famous all over the world and Martin is taking to seas in Malahide in Co. Dublin to find some juicy prawns for his sushi. Paul has enlisted the help of the largest Sea Scout troop in Europe. They’re building him a clay oven to roast some of North Dublin’s delicious vegetables. But he’s having trouble finding a smoker to prepare his smoked chicken.

It’s the second last Surf & Turf challenge and the pressure is on in Kilmore Quay in Co. Wexford. Yet Paul has decided he’s going for a simple Bacon and Butter Beans dish. What Martin doesn’t know is Paul is using his giant paella pan to prepare it! But Martin may have gone one better with his fish tacos from his very own chip van.

Martin and Paul are up in the wilds of Donegal for their final Surf & Turf challenge. Martin is spoiled for choice with Queen Scallops and Albercore tuna. But is he prepared to go out to sea to find one? Paul discovers the Willy Wonka of sausage making in Donegal Town and together they prepare their own sausage recipe.
