UFC: Ultimate 175 Greatest Fights 1993-2009

Jens Pulver made his long awaited return to the Octagon. However, newcomer Joe Lauzon had other plans. Lauzon took Pulver to the ground then faked another take down and landed a left that dropped Pulver to the ground and gave Lauzon his first UFC win.

Melvin Guillard proved that he was a force to be reckoned with in the lightweight division as he took down Gabe Ruediger at UFC 63. Guillard dictated the pace early to the UFC newcomer with Ruediger turning the tables on Guillard in the second half of the first round. Guillard rebounded in the second round with some help from his corner Tito Ortiz and was able to defeat Ruediger with a shot to the stomach.

Hermes Franca weathered an early storm against UFC newcomer Jaime Varner and then took advantage of the tired opponent in the third round. Franca kneed Varner as he came in for a takedown then capitalized on the hit to submit him later in the round.

Joe Stevenson won The Ultimate Fighter 2 at 170lbs. At UFC 61 he made his debut at 155 against the lethal striker veteran Yves Edwards. Edwards kept the fight on the feet in the first round but in the second round Stevenson was able to get the takedown and opened up a gash on Edwards head that eventually lead Stevenson to victory.

Goulet, the number two ranked fighter in Canada, took on season 2 veteran of The Ultimate Fighter Luke Cummo, in an exciting back and forth battle.

Kendall Grove and Ed Herman had a three round war to find out who would win The Ultimate Fighter 3 middleweight crown. Both fighters refused to lose with Grove getting the judges vote.

Spencer Fisher continued his march up the lightweight ranks with a second round knockout of Matt Wiman in an entertaining bout that saw the late replacement almost pull off the upset with a first round guillotine choke. In the end though, Fisher's power and accuracy proved to be the difference, as he stunned Wiman with a right hand, and followed up with a flying left knee that ended matters.

Thiago Alves faced his former conqueror Derrick Noble at UFC 59. Exciting young welterweight prospect Alves erased the memory of a 2003 submission loss to Noble by stopping his old rival with a barrage of strikes in the first round.

Coming off an impressive victory in his Octagon debut, Yoshida wasn't able to make it two in a row as he was KO'd by a brutal punch in the first round.

Bonnar and Jardine trade punch after punch and kick after kick in a memorable fight that didn't end the way a lot of people thought it would.

Frank Mir's long awaited comeback is over quickly as he falls to Jiu-Jitsu another master Marcio Cruz in the 1st round at UFC 57.

In the welterweight finals of The Ultimate Fighter Season 2 Finale, Stevenson proved he deserved his "favorite to win" status. In a close match with plenty of action, the judges decision came at the end of an exciting bout.

When newcomer Jonathan Goulet and Jay Hieron battled it out, the fight turned out to be one of the bloodiest fights in UFC history.

Sanchez showed little in the way of nerves as he was able to take Gassaway down in the early stages of the bout and work his wide array of ground skills. After that it was just a matter of time before the end came, and it came at the 1:56 mark of round two as Gassaway tapped out after a series of unanswered mounted strikes by Sanchez.

James Irvin and Terry Martin came into UFC 54 with something to prove. Irvin, to show that he could drop down to 205 from Heavyweight and also that he belonged in the UFC. Martin wanted to make a splash in his UFC debut which he was on his way to doing as he dominated Irivin in the opening round. But Irvin had other plans once they entered the second round.

Seconds into this UFC 53 bout Serra sent Parisyan face-first to the canvas with a stiff right hand to the head. Parisyan gamely held on as Serra opened up with both hands, and once his head cleared he started throwing back as Serra continued to land with his underrated strikes. The second and third rounds couldn't possibly match the pace of the opening five minutes, and at this tempo Parisyan excelled, using judo throws and fierce elbows at close range to punish his foe.

Ultimate Fighter season 1 winner Diego Sanchez drops to the lightweight division for the first time to take on season 2 winner of The Ultimate Fighter Joe Stevenson.

A standup battle between two of the sport's biggest punchers, as Octagon veteran Tank Abbott took on rising star Wesley "Cabbage" Correira. With Correria proving he was meant to compete in the UFC.

Heavily favored UFC heavyweight champion Ricco Rodriguez paid a dear price for trading punches with Tim Sylvia at UFC 41, as a series of brutal right hands knocked him down and out at 3:09 of the first round. Rodriguez, barely champion for six months, did have a brief window of opportunity when he almost landed an armbar on 'The Maine-iac', but that window slammed shut when Sylvia was able to escape and then drop bombs on his foe.

Tank Abbott returned to the Octagon to take on the up and coming Frank Mir at UFC 41. It was a brief bout though as Mir submitted the veteran only 46 seconds into the fight.

A battle of strikers as undefeated Robbie Lawler took on an equally dangerous striker in Tiki Ghosn. Though the fist of Lawler proved to be greater as his punches took away a win from Ghosn.

It was absolute slugfest between two young fighters, Robbie Lawler and Aaron Riley, both making their UFC debut in 2002. Yet when the fight ended it was Lawler who won by decision.

Heavyweights collided at UFC 34 as Roberto Traven takes on Frank Mir in a battle of jiu-jitsu artists. But it was Mir and his superior skills that won him the victory with armbar in the first round.

It's nearly impossible to beat welterweight great Matt Hughes. To do it twice would be impossible, but Dennis Hallman beat the odds at UFC 29, submitting the future champion with an armbar to gain his second victory over Hughes in as many years, which is still one of the greatest feats in the sport.
