Ash Ketchum, a 10-year-old from Pallet Town, is finally old enough to receive his first Pokémon! However, he oversleeps, and the only remaining Pokémon at Professor Oak's lab is a strong-willed Pikachu!

Ash rushes into Viridian City with his wounded Pikachu, where he encounters Jessie, James, and Meowth of Team Rocket, as well as Misty, who's angry about Ash wrecking her bike!

Ash discovers and catches his first Pokémon! Though he's excited, Misty is grossed out by his new Bug-type Pokémon friend.

Completely lost, our heroes reach a village not shown on their map. This quiet place is inhabited by Pokémon that have been injured in battle or abandoned by their Trainers.

As our heroes press on toward Vermilion City, they encounter an injured Charmander, sitting atop a stone on a mountain pass. They later find out why it is waiting there.

Ash and his friends walk along a path and fall into a hole dug by a group of mischievous Squirtle. Why is the Squirtle Squad such a menace to the local population?
