It is 1870 America, and Tom Jeffords (James Stewart), strongly believes the Apache are treated unfairly by white men. After befriending Chief Cochise (Jeff Chandler) and arranging a truce, Jeffords is called upon by the U.S. Army to negotiate a formal government peace treaty.
