In the heart of the Auvergne region, a medieval village sits on ancient lava at around a thousand metres altitude. The houses are built from local volcanic stone, in shades from blue to ochre. Today, the landscape attracts many visitors, but the village centre still preserves traces of its former wealth, from the Middle Ages through to the Renaissance, visible in its architecture and heritage.
