Reid is drawn back to Whitechapel to investigate a case that condemns Isaac Bloom to death.

Drake continues to investigate the murder of a young Indian-born lawyer. However things get tricky for Drake when it becomes clear that his investigation is stepping on Special Branch's toes. Things aren't going smoothly for Jackson and Long Susan as their plan to save her has fallen through. Reid continues to dig into the conviction of his friend Isaac Bloom who is set to be executed.

On Reid's first day back at H Division, he is drawn to a distressed woman.

Reid has been back at H Division for a month; Jackson helps Reid and Drake solve the case.

Just as it seems that Reid and Drake have found their working dynamic once more, they are forced to engage with a murder case that threatens to open old wounds. When the case connects to a young worker who was saved from the hangman's noose many years ago by Drake, fissures begin to emerge between Drake and Reid. Jackson, meanwhile, is coming under increasing pressure from Susan over their son.

Drake's life unravels as he questions whether he sent an innocent man to the gallows.

As a new serial killer plagues Whitechapel, Reid and Drake believe his crimes are being covered up.
