The Knight family mourn Jim's passing, but the reading of the will causes a rift between the brothers as they disagree about how to run the farm. Hugh learns that his probation might end a month early, after one final hearing.

Having decided to prolong his stay in Whyhope, Hugh quickly realizes he's not cut out for farm work, but his family is reluctant to help. Penny feels conflicted about her feelings for Hugh, while Matt and Charlie's glamping business is in trouble.

To Matt's discomfort, Charlie's free-spirited father, Carlito, arrives with his girlfriend's teenage daughter, Ivy. Just before the grand opening of the Knight-Cartwright heart clinic, Hugh receives a mysterious letter from his ex-wife, Harriet, which brings surprising news.

While Hugh has second thoughts about his agreement with Harriet, Penny rescues an injured wombat, but her new pet causes an uproar at the hospital. Charlie tries to reach out to Ivy, who feels abandoned by her mother, and Matt freaks out when Carlito flirts with Meryl.

Charlie tries to make the best of the situation when Carlito takes off, leaving a disgruntled Ivy behind. While the hospital staff prepare for a special guest to the cardiac clinic, Hayley returns home with her baby son, Jimmy.

After throwing his back out doing farm work, Hugh is forced to perform his surgical duties from a gurney. Later, Meryl expands her matchmaking business by hosting a speed-dating event, and Penny makes a mistake that almost jeopardizes a patient's life.

Hugh puts the farm on the market without telling his family and plans to leave for Sydney, but an investigation into a patient complaint complicates matters. Matt and Charlie receive a visit from child services after Ivy is arrested.

While Ajax resists Hugh’s decision to sell the farm, a newly single Matt goes out with his old friend April, until an accident cuts the party short. Betty takes her relationship with Darren to the next level, and Meryl sets up a date for Penny.

Meryl lashes out at Hugh when she discovers that the farm buyer is Rod, her former mayoral rival. Matt has mixed feelings about his new relationship with April, and Hugh and Ken are abducted by a desperate local in need of medical help.

The three Knight men resolve to split the farm into thirds for each of their own businesses, but Meryl breaks the deal. Hugh agrees to induce Harriet’s labor so he can start his new job in Sydney the following week, and Matt decides to clear the air with Charlie.
