A Place of Execution

High-flying journalist Catherine Heathcote is finishing a documentary about the 1963 disappearance of schoolgirl Alison Carter when the main detective on the case, George Bennett, withdraws his cooperation. As Catherine decides to head to Scardale to save her film, the events of the original investigation are revisited.

In 1963, after bullets and blood-soaked clothes are found in the lead mine, George brings Philip Hawkin in for questioning. Back in the present day, Catherine meets with George and confronts him with her suspicions about evidence tampering.

Hawkin is tried for the rape and murder of Alison Carter, but he claims that George has framed him. Catherine hears the story of the trial from George’s sergeant on the case, but she faces blowback at work when her boss thinks she is trying to protect George. As Catherine finally uncovers Scardale’s secrets, the truth turns her world upside down.
