Kazuma Azuma lives in the country and is in a family of rice farmers. When his sister Inaho asks to have bread for bread for breakfast, grandfather Umataro refuses. It’s up to Kazuma to make a bread that will convince him! His journey for Ja-pan starts now!

Kazuma takes the recruitment exam to get accepted into Pantasia, the best bakery in Japan, and he meets the ambitious yet snarky Kyoutaro Kawachi, who is willing to sabotage Kazuma’s dough to win.

Kazuma and Kawachi work together to make the ultimate croissant, Ja-pan #43. But can it stand up against the croissant made by the strongest of the rookies, Kai Suwabara?

It’s Kazuma and Kawachi’s first day of work at Pantasia’s South Tokyo, but before they can be recognized as true bread artisans, they must satisfy the manager’s request to make a bread that even a horse will eat.

Kazuma and Kawachi both try and find a way to make a bread that the manager’s horse will eat. Kawachi decides to use oats, while Kazuma makes butter.

Manager Matsushiro challenges the manager of St. Pierre’s main store, Mokoyama, to a bread battle, which will be broadcast live. Can Kazuma win with his Ja-pan?

The bread battle has begun! Mokoyama unveils his ridiculously sweet Kouign Pudding Amman, which the judges give a perfect score! Does Kazuma’s Ja-pan stand a chance?

South Tokyo receives their invitations for the Pantasia Rookie Competition, a tournament for all Pantasia newcomers to vie for baking supremacy. After feeling like he can’t match Kazuma, Tsukino helps Kawachi train to acquire the Gauntlets of the Sun.

Kawachi is continuing his training, but still hasn’t come up with an idea for what kind of bread he will submit for the contest preliminaries. Will he come up with something in time?

Both Kazuma and Kawachi have made it past the preliminaries and now the Rookie Competition has officially begun!

For their first task, Kazuma and Kawachi must make a butter roll… but Kazuma chose the worst possible butter for the assignment! Can he possibly make anything good enough to pass?

Kazuma almost faces the end! Will his poor choice of butter disqualify him from the contest already? And, Tsukino comes face to face with her younger sister, Mizuno, who proposes a bet. If Mizuno wins, then Kazuma will have to transfer to her store!

In this round, Kazuma is up against Mizuno, and he has to make melon bread. The problem? He has no idea how to make melon bread! Can he possibly beat Mizuno, who is not only incredibly skilled, but who also uses premier ingredients?

The theme of the next round is Yakisoba bread, and the twist is that challengers this round will cook the yakisoba. Kazuma, however, is a terrible cook, so Mr. Matsushiro recruits an old friend to teach Kazuma and Kawachi about the way of noodles.

Kawachi finds the yakisoba challenge quite easy, but Kazuma can’t get the hang of cooking. Will he be able to think of something in time before he has to face Spencer Henry Hoko, an amazing baker who is renowned for his yakisoba bread?

Kazuma is up against Koala, and the theme is to make an “animal” bread. Can Kazuma stand up against the powerful, mysterious Koala? Or will Koala secure victory for Mizuno?

Koala’s bread is a dragon and Kazuma’s bread… is in the shape of a turtle? Which will be victorious?

Tsukino goes to visit her mother’s grave, while Kawachi goes up against Katsuo in the contest. After seeing what Tsukino has lost, the South Tokyo crew makes a vow to win for her!

It’s time for the semifinals! Kawachi is up against scientific genius Shigeru Kanmuri. Kawachi is feeling confident, but something seems to be wrong with his dough…

Kawachi’s dough won’t ferment despite his best efforts and he collapses after become exhausted. What could have been the cause? Does South Tokyo stand a chance against such foul play?

After Kawachi’s horrible defeat, Kazuma vows to avenge him. So Kazuma uses a slab of petalite to make Ja-pan #44, a bread so delicious that the person who eats it will be whisked away to Heaven! Has Kazuma finally gotten serious?

Before he faces Suwabara, the strongest of the rookies, Mr. Matsushiro tells Kawachi to go train at St. Andrew’s church. Meanwhile, Yukino breaks Kazuma’s petalite stone!

Kawachi meets a young nun who teaches him how to make incredible bread and stand up to geniuses! Meanwhile, Kazuma is about to face off against Kanmuri to see who can make the springier bread!

Kazuma is up against Kanmuri! It’s time to see who will win! Their battle is overseen by the illustrious Meister Kirisaki, who gives Kanmuri a perfect score. Can Kazuma hope to win against a scientific genius who graduated from Harvard at a young age?
