In the years since Lucky and Meg had their grand adventure, Lucky has returned to Sydney. Now a successful musician, his world should be starting to come together. But he's an emotional mess and a problem drinker, and his erratic behaviour is making his TV star girlfriend's life much more complicated.

Despite his relationship back in Sydney being on the rocks, Lucky has accompanied Meg to Queensland to find her mum. Meg has assured him he'll be back in time for his niece Billie who is coming to stay. But just as Meg is gaining ground on Linda, she's stopped in her tracks; her ex-boyfriend has followed her all the way from Karingunna.

Lucky reluctantly finds himself in Cairns where he spent some time in the years after he fell out with his brother. Though he tries to lay low, Meg isn't one for subtlety and quickly makes their presence known. Lucky is concerned she's running from her problems and the truth of her mother's abandonment.

After escaping Lucky's old mate Duncan, Meg and Lucky continue north. They discover that Meg's mum may be living at a spiritual Wellfullness Commune out in the middle of nowhere. Lucky's girlfriend finally breaks up with him over the phone, but he's committed to helping Meg as they hitch a ride deeper into the rainforest.

Wounded from his confrontation and fading fast, Lucky finds himself separated from Meg in the middle of the rainforest. But the pair are soon reunited at an old bush camp where the quirky inhabitants attempt to heal Lucky's wounds. Their makeshift remedies, however, are of little relief. Lucky turns to alcohol for distraction and Meg feels betrayed.

Lucky and Meg finally make it to the Wellfulness Commune and Meg is desperate to find her mother. After being treated for his wounds and partaking in spiritual cleansing ceremonies, Lucky's mocking of their hippie rituals comes to a halt when Meg finally finds her mother. And Lucky also recognises a familiar face.

Lucky and Meg find themselves trapped at the Wellfulness Commune, and with Billie due to arrive in Sydney the following day, Lucky is desperate to get home. As they discover there is more to this commune than meets the eye, Meg sneaks away and finally gets a chance to speak to her mother. She learns that some burdens just have to be carried.

Having escaped the Wellfulness Commune, Lucky and Meg race back to Sydney. Lucky's hopeful he'll be there in time to meet Billie at the airport. But having been unable to contact Toby, Lucky fears he's let her down. Meg tries to keep his hopes up, but with Lucky's relationship back in Sydney also in tatters, he prepares to face the shattered remnants of his life back home.
