The townspeople continue to cope with their grief over Colin Hart's death last spring, and Dr. Brown and his family are unfairly marked as social outcasts because he was unable to save Colin.

Dr. Brown is concerned that Ephram needs more extracurricular activities to be accepted at a top college, but Ephram is focused on his Juilliard music audition--which has surprising results.

The entire Abbott family is agitated by the return of Dr. Linda Abbott, Dr. Abbott's sister, who has been practicing Eastern-based medicine in exotic locations around the world.

Dr. Brown's well-intentioned plan to give Ephram more free time by hiring college student Madison Kellner as a caretaker for Delia ends up making things worse.

When Dr. Brown invites Linda to dinner at the Brown house to discuss a patient, Delia lashes out, using foul language.

Much to his chagrin, Dr. Abbott suspects that Linda and Dr. Brown are far too attracted to each other, so he decides to select more appropriate suitors for his sister.

When a coal mine collapses, Dr. Brown rushes to the scene, along with Edna, Linda and Dr. Abbott.

When Phil, a mechanic, correctly "diagnoses" Dr. Brown's young patient with meningitis rather than with the flu, the townspeople believe Phil is a seer.

Dr. Brown courts Linda, despite Edna and Dr. Abbott's insistence that he's wasting his time.

Outraged to discover that Ephram and Madison have gotten romantically involved, Dr. Brown almost terminates her job. Madison quits anyway, leaving the Browns with a very unhappy holiday.

Within an hour of the discovery that Amy has run away from home, the authorities are at the Abbott house to scour for clues and interview her devastated parents and brother.

Dr. Brown tries to intervene when a bulimic high school champion wrestler, Gavin Curtis, puts his life in jeopardy while preparing for an important tournament.

Distracted by her first fight with Tommy, Amy forgets to prepare her father's birthday dinner, making a reconciliation with him more difficult. Madison lies to Ephram about liking a love song he wrote, leading to an argument when she refuses to show the song to her band. And Nina finally confronts Dr. Brown about his neglecting their friendship in favor of Linda.

Ephram gets the wrong idea when Madison tells him her roommate is going to be out of town--but the misunderstanding leads to intimacy for the couple.

Ephram is horrified and heartbroken after he impulsively tells Madison that he loves her, and she doesn't reciprocate. Meanwhile, Linda naïvely agrees to take care of Delia overnight so Dr. Brown can accompany Ephram and his piano teacher, Will, to a jazz competition in Boulder. Also, Amy breaks up with Tommy after realizing she might not be able to trust him.

Bright helps Ephram get a fake identification card so he can get into a bar to see Madison perform with her band.

Amy moves back home but finds adjusting to her old life difficult, especially after her parents discover that she is taking birth control pills. Also, Amy's former friends rebuff her. Meanwhile, Ephram thinks Madison is going to break up with him. And Dr. Brown testifies on behalf of Nina as she and her ex-husband, Carl, who recently admitted that he is gay, battle for sole custody of their son.

Against Dr. Brown's judgment, ex-sweethearts Ephram and Madison (recurring guest star SARAH LANCASTER) decide that she should resume her job as Delia's baby-sitter. Meanwhile, Amy contemplates stopping her antidepressant medication after Linda (recurring guest star MARCIA CROSS) suggests that Amy might be ready. And Bright anxiously awaits his college acceptance letters.

Amy confides to Bright that she may have developed feelings for Ephram, but Bright begs her to have mercy on poor Ephram, who is still nursing a broken heart.

Ephram and Amy go to the prom together as friends, but after they encounter his ex-girlfriend Madison and Amy realizes that Ephram is still brokenhearted, Amy decides not to tell him that she has romantic feelings for him. Meanwhile, Linda ponders leaving Everwood. And Dr. Brown's mentor, Dr. Donald Douglas, asks him to perform risky brain surgery--on Douglas himself.

When Amy accompanies Ephram to Boulder for his audition to Juilliard, a romantic moment leads her to confess her newfound feelings for him.

Ephram is elated after being accepted into Juilliard's summer program, but he is overcome with emotion when Amy shares her feelings for him and asks him to stay in Everwood for the summer. Meanwhile, Dr. Abbott's family thinks he is a fool when he decides to open a bagel shop after losing his malpractice insurance. And Dr. Brown has a shocking revelation about his family.
