Elfen Lied

Uma diclonius chamada "Lucy" foge de um laboratório de pesquisas, matando vários guardas. Durante a fuga, ela toma um tiro e cai no mar. Os ferimentos fazem ela ganhar uma nova personalidade, Nyu, totalmente inocente e infantil. Ela é encontrada por dois primos, Kouta e Yuka que a levam para casa sem saber nada sobre a garota.

Kohta finds Nyu at the beach where Bandoh, a member of the SAT and his partner are scouting. Nyu is discovered by the team and becomes Lucy. Meanwhile, Yuka finds Kohta and takes him to the hospital. When he gets home, Nyu is waiting for him.

Nana, a Diclonius, has accepted the request to find Lucy.Nyu hits her head and becomes Lucy, but after having a flashback of Kohta, leaves.

Lucy and Nana fight. Lucy transforms back into Nyu and meets Yuka by accident. Yuka finds out that Mayu may be homeless. Meanwhile, Nana returns to the facility and Kurama's boss insists that Nana must die because she is now useless.

O motivo para Mayu ter fugido de casa é revelado. Depois de Kouta e Yuka levarem Nyu para a universidade, ela é descoberta por Kakuzawa, um dos professores e também filho do Diretor do laboratório onde ela estava.

Kohta returns to school and tries to talk to the professor, but only finds the assistant in his office. She takes him to find the professor dead in the basement lab. Bandoh escapes from the facility and goes on a hunt for Lucy.

Nana suggests to Bandoh that they work together since their goal is the same—to find Lucy. He rejects her offer, but tells her to make contact with him once she finds her.

Como nunca viveu fora do laboratório, Nana é muito inocente sobre as coisas que acontecem ao seu redor. Mayu descobre o segredo de Lucy quando Nana revela seus poderes diclonius para ela. O ataque de Nana faz Lucy começar a relembrar o passado, nos mostrando como ela veio a ser o que é.

Lucy dreams about her childhood. She killed many people at the children's home because some boys killed her dog friend.

O passado de Kurama é explicado nesse episódio. Ele foi convidado pelo Diretor Kakuzawa para trabalhar com seu filho no Projeto Diclonius depois de sair da universidade. Ele aceitou, mas só consegue descobrir o meio de transmissão do vírus diclonius depois de ter sido infectado.

Mariko é revelada como filha de Kurama e a verdadeira identidade da nº 35. Ela é liberada de sua câmara de contenção como última medida para capturar Lucy. Enquanto isso, Kurama se junta com Bando para tentar matar Lucy, escondido de Shirakawa e sua equipe..

When the order is given to kill Nyu, she reverts back to Lucy and uses her vectors to repel bullets, thereby saving Kohta. This action unlocks the memory of Kohta's sister and father and how they were murdered.

Since Nana damaged Mariko's vectors, she is unable to use them and is taken to a place to be watched over. Kurama tells Nana that he must kill Mariko. Lucy goes to see Kohta and apologizes for making him feel sad so many times.

Nana tenta encontrar o seu lugar na Pousada Kaede, mas ainda está em dúvida do que fazer com Lucy. Quando Nana está prestes a levar a vulnerável Nyu até Bando, uma chuva cai e faz Lucy despertar. Mas a rainha das diclonius permanece desacordada enquanto lembra de uma amiga.
