Being Erica

After Erica breaks her promise to Dr Tom, he quits being her therapist. But her new therapist Dr Naadiah sends her back to a bar in 1998, where she meets a younger, troubled Dr Tom. With this glimpse into his past, Erica realizes it is now her turn to lend a helping hand.

Erica and Ethan are going through a rough patch. They can't seem to stop arguing. Erica returns to camp to a time when she went through a similar problem in a relationship. By discovering the truth about her broken teenage romance, she learns that the only sure path through conflict is communication.

When Erica babysits Max for the first time, Judith is less than impressed with her inability to follow strict directions. Erica returns to her college days to prove she is not the flake Judith believes her to be. Ever since Erica went back on a commitment in college, she has felt that Judith is the adult and she is the child in their relationship.

Erica has said 'no' one too many times due to her fear of risk, and now she is ready to take some chances. When she jumps on board a major career opportunity, and jets back to a summer in Taipei, she faces the challenge of knowing the right risks from the wrong ones.

Secrets are popping up everywhere and Erica gets caught in the middle. Julianne is set to give her boyfriend a key to her apartment, but Erica finds out something that might make Julianne think again. Dr Tom thinks it's similar to an event when Erica was at high school and so she returns to discover the consequences of keeping a secret.

When Erica faints at a family ceremony, she is propelled into the future, where she discovers Kai's true identity. Struggling to help her father in the present, and Kai in the future, Erica begins to realize the only problems she can fix are her own.

Erica is having a bit of a bad day. She's trying to cope with hers and everyone else's problems, so she's looking forward to an escape to her past. Dr Tom, however, is changing things up - and, to Erica's surprise, so is everyone else, or so it seems.

Work on the sex book is in full swing, but when Erica discovers Kai is one of the case study volunteers, she's less than impressed. After a trip back to Wonderland where Erica sees a different side of her brother Leo, she returns from the past disillusioned and ready to confront her true feelings for Kai.

When Erica asks Dr Tom to step in and help Kai, Dr Tom allows his anger to take over, sending him on his own session back to the day he last saw his daughter. He realizes that over time all relationships change, and forcing them only makes matters worse.

After a shocking turn of events at River Rock Publishing, Erica discovers the value of setbacks when Dr Tom sends her to an alternate reality, supposedly setback free. She goes back to the time when she was working at a dot com firm back in 2001. If she had worked there just a bit longer, she could have made millions.

Erica struggles with some big decisions, and she is desperate for a little direction. After some hide and seek in the past and present, the last place she looks to is the closest to her heart. By making some major changes to her life it opens up a world of possibility.
