The Kingdom of the Wind

King Yuri leads the Kingdom of Goguryeo. At war, his troops rebel and stab him. The palace is raided. King Yuri defeats the interlopers. The queen gives birth to a son. The Sorceress believes the baby will lead to Goguryeo’s downfall; she kidnaps the infant. King Yuri finds her.

Sangga poisons livestock in Goguryeo. The Queen dies. There is unrest in the kingdom until King Yuri, haunted by the prophecy, pretends to kill the baby. King Yuri gives the baby, Muhyul, to Prince Hae-myeong, who flees with him to Jolbon. Chief Decorator Hye Ap raises Muhyul as a commoner.

King Daeso seeks Emperor Jumong’s tomb. They threaten Hye Ap. Muhyul goes looking for her and finds the Heavenly Sword. Prince Hae-myeong declares war on Goguryeo. Hye Ap asks Prince Hae-myeong about Muhyul’s true identity. Muhyul joins the army. King Yuri abdicates to King Daeso. Muhyul is captured.

Prince Hae-myeong bombards Buyeo frontier camp to free Muhyul, and in the midst of this Muhyul and the smuggglers are able to escape their torturous captures. King Daeso demands the capture of King Yuri and declares war on Goguryeo.

Muhyul is caught by the Buyeo Fortress guards, Yeon goes to see him and they exchange words. After learning of an attempted assassination attempt by a Hwangnyong spy, King Daeso orders a search of all Buyeo fortress to capture Hwangnyong spies.

Hae-myeong and Muyhul attack King Daeso and those with him. King Daeso recieves a sword in his back and is believed dead. With King Daeso dead, King Yuri declares war with Buyeo. Baguek sees that King Daeso is alive.

King Daeso captures and executes hundreds of Goguryeo troops. Baeguek escorts Prince Hae-myeong to surrender himself to King Daeso. Muhyul gets shot by an arrow in his chest by Jolbon troops trying to rescue Prince Hae-myeong.

Muhyul denies King Yuri as his King, and he and Maro begin training to become Black Shadows under Wesaja. Muhyul discovers Yeon is the daughter of Wesaja, and a Princess of Buyeo. In order to gain good allegiance, King Yuri marries his daughter, Princess Seryu, to the Gisan tribe.

Dojin, Yeon, and Muhyul are sent to kill the Xin leader when the Crown Prince is named. Yeon steals a map to help Muhyul. Muhyul wants to kill King Yuri. Yeon serves the Queen. Prince Daein dies, destroying the alliance with Xin. Muhyul is jealous of Maro and Yeon.

Wesaja is charged with treason. King Yuri orders the death of Wesaja's household. Wesaja helps Yeon escape, dying. Dojin is sent to Xin. Princess Seryu returns following the death of her husband. Muhyul and Maro learn there is a spy among them. King Daeso orders them to kill King Yuri.

Muhyul remembers Prince Haemyeong’s death and vows to kill King Yuri, who is tortured by dreams of Prince Haemyeong. Prince Yeojin is confined within the palace. Baguek plots to kill the prince. Muhyul and Maro rescue Prince Yeojin and hold him for ransom. They insist King Yuri meet them.

King Yuri learns that Prince Yeojin has been captured and rides out to save his son. Muhyul confronts him and is shot by Hye Ap, Gweyu, and Balso. King Yuri realizes that Muhyul is his long-lost son. King Yuri remembers the prophecy. Muhyul runs away, but collapses. Yeon saves him.

Yeon tells Muhyul that King Yuri was not responsible for Prince Haemyeong’s death. He returns to the palace and asks to see his father. Muhyul begs forgiveness, offering to spy for Goguryeo. Maro and Muhyul spy in Buyeo. Princess Seryu sees Dojin wearing the necklace she gave baby Muhyul.

Maengwaeng helps Muhyul and Maro escape; they become King Daeso’s elite bodyguards. King Yuri is tired of Biryu's making trouble without attacking. Muhyul shoots King Daseo. Dojin is secretly heir to the throne of Buyeo. Muyhul tells Yeon that he avenged her father’s death. Dojin sees them entwined.

Muhyul and Maro use their Black Shadows knowledge to train spies. Dojin finds Yeon and pledges to spend his life protecting her and making her happy. King Daeso awakens and learns who shot him. Baeguek and Prince Yeojin’s uncle kidnaps Muhyul and Maro after learning they were Black Shadows.

Baeguek and Lord Yongam claim Hye Ape is conspiring with Buyeo against Gogureyeo. King Yuri orders the release of Muhyul and Maro. The King refuses to acknowledge Muhyul as heir. Hye Ap conspires with Changmunim to prepare Muhyul to take the throne. Rumors spread that the "dead" prince is alive.

Dojin deducts Muhyul's identity and spreads rumors to cause panic throughout the kingdom. Princess Seryu asks Muhyul to find her dead brother. Muhyul finally understands who he really is. He reflects on his time with Prince Haemyoung, now realizing they were true brothers. King Yuri bemoans the prophecy.

King Yuri contracts the same mysterious pestilence that has affected several hundred subjects. Muhyul, who went missing from the palace, suddenly reappears to deliver the antidote he stole from Buyeo to Yeon. Later, the ailing King receives the antidote while Muhyul accounts for his disappearance.

In the wake of the pestilence that almost claimed his life, King Yuri introduces his third-born prince. That prince is none other than Muhyul. The announcement meets with the Council’s dissent. They are convinced Muhyul's curse will be the downfall of Goguryeo.

Prince Muhyul is hell bent on purposely provoking King Daeso. A lesser man would have put Muhyul in his place, however, King Daeso is wise and let Muhyul beat him. The King knows that all are watching him and judging him. Even a king must submit to his people sometimes.

The council meets to discuss continuing with Prince Muhyul or surrendering after losing a major battle. Another battle begins but Prince Muhyul has no strategy to win against King Daeso's chariots.

Suffering from a miserable defeat, the hope of victory is taken from Muhyul and handed over to Buyeo. This is a great shame, how will he recover from such an undertaking?

Prince Muhyul, angers Dojin when he seeks his advice. Muhyul begs Dojin to aide him in finding Yeon. Dojin asks Muhyul what can he do for Yeon and how can he keep her safe, when he can't keep himself safe? Can he guard and protect anyone when he himself is in need of protection?

Dojin starts plotting his wicked ways. King Daeso grants Dojin permission to overthrow Goguryeo and become more powerful in the process.
